Summary: Update from my other model...still needs help
Comment: This model was purchased to replace my two daughters' 19 inch Toshiba LCD/DVD combo. Review can be found on here. At first sight, you think that you can't go wrong. It is a wonderful little television for the purpose of bedroom; especially child's bedroom!

The good:
Picture quality is great.

Plays DVD's as of now. (Old model is picky and only likes Disney DVDs)

Volume control and rest of functions can be accessed by Direct TV remote.

Sound is awesome... at night we have to leave it at LEVEL 5 out of 50. Very loud.

The BAD:
I just noticed the other night that if you are beneath the screen, even a foot, then forget the picture quality!! Everything was DARK and GRAY. My Toshiba REGZA in my bedroom does not do this at all!

The HD channels that is picks up on its' own aren't that abundant, compared to the REGZA.

Finally, the picture is nice, but it isn't vibrant the way a new television should be.

So... now that you know the good and bad, you will not be disappointed. IF this is for a bedroom then it will suffice. If you want it for great HD viewing, then skip this. SPEND THE EXTRA dollars and buy a REGZA... the picture and quality just blows this one away.

Summary: Not bad!!
Comment: Good product for the price - I can pick up a few HD channel through my local cable service provider (even though I did not pay for it). DVD function is simple to use. Like the previous reviewer - changing TV channel takes 2 second (slight delay) - apart from that, no complain at all.

Summary: Not super...
Comment: I ordered this tv and it showed up with a dead pixel so I returned. Not sure if I'm going to get the same one or the Sharp. The picture when viewed at night seemed to have a white glow coming from the top and bottome edges of the screen, mostily noticable on darker pictures. Not sure if that is the way it's supposed to be or if there was more than a dead pixel wrong with the tv. I was worried about the sound level but that didn't seem to be a problem.

Summary: Worst Picture I've Seen in Years
Comment: My sister bought one of these. I used it during the week that I housesat for her. The picture is blurry, washed out, and lacks depth and detail. It has terrible viewing angle problems: the picture fades to nothing if viewed at the wrong angle. DVDs watched using the built in player look like VHS. Adjusting the controls did not help at all. I compared the picture quality of her Toshiba LCD unit with her 10 year old Panasonic 27-inch picture tube TV. There was a night and day difference. Using the same source material, the 10 year old Panasonic tube TV looked MUCH better, and it was not even a high end unit in its day, only mid-range. This LCD TV is a waste of money. I would give it 0 stars if I could. Even the ancient console from the '80s that my mother used to own had a better picture than this piece of junk.

Bring back the picture tube (CRT). Picture tube TVs have a far better picture than LCDs.

UPDATE: In the above comparisons, I watched regular definition material. I recently had the chance to view high definition material on this LCD. The picture still suffers from terrible viewing angle problems, but the picture quality did improve significantly. So I compared the high definition version of a channel on this LCD with the regular definition version of the same channel on the 10 year old Panasonic picture tube TV. Except for the LCD's viewing angle problems, the HIGH definition picture quality on this LCD is close to the REGULAR definition picture on the picture tube TV. In other words, it takes a HIGH definition picture on the LCD to even begin to approach the quality of a REGULAR definition picture on a 10 year old standard definition CRT! And even then, the LCD still suffers from bad viewing angle problems, while the CRT does not. These LCD TVs are a scam! Save the picture tube (CRT). Remember, the vast majority of material is NOT high definition. Cable and satellite providers are NOT required to go to HD.

Summary: Perfect HDTV for a Study/Home Office
Comment: This HDTV is an ideal size for my Study/Home Office (similar to a small bedroom). The video quality is excellent with only basic cable (no set-top box) "out of the wall". It displays HD and digital signals from high to low: 1080i; 720p; 480i depending on what level a given station is broadcasting. You can see the slight differences in quality, but all are sharp and clear. The Analog signals also look better than on an "old-fashioned" TV, just not as sharp as the lowest quality DTV signal. DVD's play very easily and the video quality is super.

One minor gripe (as others have mentioned), the audio quality is only adequate (at least compared to the home theater quality many of us are now used to). I've found the volume range to be more than satisfactory for a small to mid-size room; I keep it right at the middle volume level for most all programs. Considering the size and price range of this DTV, I think this level of audio performance is probably reasonable. However, by adding a modest 2.1 "computer" speaker system (plugged into the headphone output), I now have a thoroughly enjoyable audio experience to enhance the set's excellent video. Problem solved by a minimal $25 add-on.

And what a delightful shopping experience from Amazon--I found exactly what I was looking for; the price was the best anywhere; NO shipping or tax charges; and it arrived 1 day early in PERFECT condition!
