Summary: No more Sonys EVER
Comment: Used to worship Sony, esp. the XBR line. Quality and durability are no longer concepts Sony understands. Like the other reviewers, ours poofed out after only sporadic use. We do not use the TVs much, and for this one to need a $700 part so soon------well, with significantly larger screens now going for very little more than the part for this one, this little brick is soon to be an anchor for somebody's boat. Thank goodness for the Pioneer Elite series. Our "movie" tv, the 61" Elite has gotten extensive use, perhaps three to four times as many hours as on the Sony and not ever a hiccup. Granted, the price on that one was staggering at the time of purchase, and if it behaved like the Sony---well, not worth contemplating. In summary, please stay away from Sony. You will be thankful you do. PS: we gave it one star only because Amazon does not understand the concept of negative numbers. It should have received minus five stars, like a black hole--similar to the black screen it soon displays.

Summary: Poof goes the TV
Comment: Like other reviewers, my TV also went poof after having it about 4 years (guess I should consider myself lucky in getting a bit more time than others). Repair looks to be $700 plus to replace a power switch. I'm very disappointed in this Sony; obviously a poor design. I'm in the market for another TV, not sure it will be a Sony.

Summary: Poof !
Comment: Love the TV screen and box design. Problem, as w/ another reviewer, is the screen went blank. Purchased in Jan of 2003 and last week, after a mere 3 yrs, sparks flew fr the back and 2 pops were heard. The screen went blank and either the TV is worthless, considering what you can now get for $1k plus, or I'm in for a near $1k repair. Sony should be ashamed that one of their high end products has such a short shelf life. Yes, I called Sony and they referred me to an authorized repair person.

Summary: Super TV, even after 4 years.
Comment: This one is a real winner. Has all kinds of inputs. The picture quality lives up true to the Sony tradition. Crips stunning images with tons of picture and audio quality settings.

I even connected my laptop to this TV using the DVI interface. Pictures are sharp and crisp. The built-in tuner is a good advantage as well.

Summary: Disappointed at Year 2
Comment: I bought this tv almost 2 years ago and paid almost 5000 for it. Today I am planning to spend 1000 more to replace a screen part because 2 weeks ago I began to get only a white screen when ever I turned the tv on. Who would believe that such a tv would only last 2 years with no maintenance required. I used the repair section on sony.com and selected a repair service in the area. The repair person who came to look at my set did not seem surprised about the problem. Therefore I would be cautious about the purchase of another plasma.
